Lucid Dreaming (When You Know You Are Dreaming)

Lucid dreaming is when you are inside a dream, but you suddenly realize that it is a dream. It feels very real, but at the same time you know, “this is not real life.”

The interesting part is that once you realize you are dreaming, you can sometimes control it. You can change the place, fly, meet people, or do things that are impossible in real life. It feels like your mind becomes a creative world.

Most people experience lucid dreaming randomly, without planning it. It usually happens during deep sleep, especially when the brain becomes more active while dreaming.

Some people try to train it by asking themselves during the day, “Am I dreaming?” This habit sometimes carries into dreams, and then they become aware inside the dream.

In simple words, lucid dreaming is just your mind becoming aware inside a dream and sometimes even controlling it.

What is a Guitar Truss Rod?

Inside many guitar necks, there is a metal rod called the truss rod. It is hidden, so you don’t see it from outside, but it plays a very important role in how the guitar feels and plays.

The main job of the truss rod is to control the curve of the neck. Guitar strings are always pulling the neck forward with tension. So the truss rod balances that pressure and keeps the neck in a proper shape.

If the neck bends too much forward or backward, the action (string height) becomes uncomfortable. Too high, it’s hard to play. Too low, strings may buzz. That’s why truss rod adjustment is important for setup.

Some guitars need small adjustments depending on weather or string tension. Even a small turn can change how the guitar feels.

In simple words, the truss rod is like the “support system” of the
guitar neck. It helps your guitar stay playable and stable over time.

Single Coil vs. Humbucker

If you’re new to electric guitars, you might be wondering why some guitars have skinny pickups and others have wide ones. These are the "ears" of your guitar, they catch the vibration of your strings and send them to your amp!

First, we have Single Coils (found on classics like the Fender Stratocaster). Think of these as the "bright and clear" option. They sound sharp, snappy, and very detailed. They are perfect if you want to play funky pop, clean blues, or country. The only "downside" is that they can sometimes make a buzzing noise (we call it "hum") if you turn your distortion up high.

Then, there are Humbuckers (the chunky ones you see on a Gibson Les Paul). These were actually invented to "buck the hum" meaning they cancel out that annoying buzzing noise! Because they use two coils instead of one, the sound is much thicker, warmer, and more powerful. If you want to play heavy rock, metal, or even smooth jazz, a humbucker is your best friend because it sounds "creamy" and strong.

Why Hans Zimmer’s Music Feels Huge

When I listen to music by Hans Zimmer, especially in Interstellar, it doesn’t feel like normal movie background music. It feels big, emotional, and somehow very deep.

One thing I really notice is how perfectly the music matches the meaning of each scene. It’s not just “sound added to a movie.” It feels like the music is telling the same story. It helps us understand the scene better and makes the moment feel more powerful.

He also builds the sound slowly. It starts simple and then grows layer by layer. That’s why it feels so wide and “huge” when it reaches the main part.

Even the quiet moments matter. Sometimes it becomes very soft, and then suddenly the music comes in strong. That change makes the emotion hit even harder.

That’s why his music feels so special. It doesn’t just play with the movie,  it goes inside it and makes us feel the story more deeply.

Why Some Guitarists Use String Wraps

If you look at some electric guitar players, you can notice a small cloth or hair band near the top of the guitar neck. At first, I thought it was just for style. But actually, it helps a lot while playing.

When using distortion or high gain sounds, the other strings can make small unwanted noises by themselves. Especially during tapping, fast solos, or technical playing. So guitarists use a string wrap to mute those extra string vibrations and keep the sound cleaner.

Some people buy professional string dampeners, and some just use a normal hair band. Same job, same idea.

It’s a really small thing, but when you hear the difference, you understand why so many guitarists use it. Especially for recording or live performances with a lot of gain.

Playing Guitar at Voices of VAPA

I played guitar on campus for the first time as a first-year student at Lionel Edirisinghe Memorial Hall.
The programme was called Voices of VAPA, organized by the English Language & Teaching section. It was a special event with singing performances, and I got the chance to play guitar for two of them.

One of them was a song I heard only 10 minutes before the programme started. I played it live, building the chords on the spot. I also added some small lead parts with fingerstyle backing. That one didn’t win, but I liked the challenge.

The other performance was really interesting. I played as the rhythm guitarist, together with a lead guitarist and a pianist. The song’s melody and chord structure were very beautiful, one of the best performances of that day. And obviously, the lyrics and the singer’s vocal talent were strong. That’s why our singer friend got first place.

Why Batman Can’t Kill People

Batman doesn’t kill criminals, even the dangerous ones like Joker. Many people think this is strange, but it is actually part of his personal rule.

After losing his parents, Batman decided that he would never take a life. He believes that if he starts killing criminals, he will become like them. For him, that is the real loss.

Batman also believes that many criminals are not completely evil. Some of them are shaped by society, pain, or bad situations. So instead of killing them, he tries to stop them and send them to justice.

Even Joker is included in this idea. Batman knows Joker is extremely dangerous, but he still refuses to kill him. Because once he breaks his rule, he may never stop.

So in the end, Batman’s rule is not about saving criminals,  it is about saving himself from becoming something darker.
