I played guitar
on campus for the first time as a first-year student at Lionel Edirisinghe
Memorial Hall.
The programme was called Voices of VAPA, organized by the English Language
& Teaching section. It was a special event with singing performances, and I
got the chance to play guitar for two of them.
One of them was a
song I heard only 10 minutes before the programme started. I played it live,
building the chords on the spot. I also added some small lead parts with
fingerstyle backing. That one didn’t win, but I liked the challenge.
The other performance was really interesting. I played as the rhythm guitarist, together with a lead guitarist and a pianist. The song’s melody and chord structure were very beautiful, one of the best performances of that day. And obviously, the lyrics and the singer’s vocal talent were strong. That’s why our singer friend got first place.
Unforgettable memories and experiences!!🥰
